Week 20: So Close, Yet So Far
With just 2 weeks remaining, only one team has clinched a playoff spot!
Week 20 Recap
With 2 weeks to go, only one team has clinched a playoff spot. Unreal!
The Weinstein’s had yet another dominant week. Mr. Dub scored 349 points to make it 16 wins on the year and clinch the Montgomery Trophy for finishing in 1st place in the regular season! This is Mr. Dub’s 4th Montgomery Trophy and his first since 2013/14. Congratulations! Team Weinstein defeated Snow Cones by 10 points to take over 2nd place from the Swiss machine. Huge performances from Jake Guentzel and Jason Robertson brought it home for Mark. I think it is safe to say he won the trade. He is also closing in on the Gordon Bombay Trophy, awarded to the team with the highest point total in the regular season. With only two weeks remaining, it is looking all the more likely Mark will be taking home his 5th Gordon Bombay and 3rd consecutive.
Snow Cones is now in 3rd place and is riding a 3-week losing streak. He has also lost 5 of his last 6. It is his worst stretch of the season and is coming at the worst possible time. One more loss and Snow Cones will have completely erased his 3 win advantage he carried over the rest of the pack for the majority of the year.
With a mere 1-win lead over the rest of the playoff contenders, Team Weinstein and Snow Cones have yet to clinch a spot at the dance. Wins this week, however, will change that.
This is where things get interesting!
4th-7th place all have a record of 12-8 and are closely trailed by 8th-10th who have a record of 11-9. As it stands, Blitzkrieg, Lexie’s Legit, and Chelsea’s Dagger have higher point totals than the rest and are the odds on favorites to make the playoffs from that group of 7. That said, losses this week can completely derail those odds. And boy do we have some huge battles coming up! My Blitzkrieg faces Chelsea’s Dagger, Lexie’s Legit faces Team Weinstein, and Lou’s Still Clueless faces Team Wong. There is potential for things to completely change after this week. The drama could not be more intense!
Jordan deserves his flowers because Philly’s Elite is currently on a 3-week win streak. It is a run that has catapulted him from 9th place to 7th in a matter of weeks. What was once looking like an uphill battle is now more possible than ever. Jordan’s 12th win of the season was absolutely massive given his lower point total than Unleash the Fury and Lou’s Still Clueless. Stick taps.
Lou’s Still Clueless snapped his 3-week losing streak, but losses in 4 of his last 6 leave him on the outside looking in. Team Wong also suffered a devastating defeat against Chelsea’s Dagger leaving him in 10th place. To make things even more dramatic, Eric and Kendall face off this week in the most important matchup of the season! Winner stays alive, loser is likely done. Get ready, folks!
Finally, history has been made! The Washington Hockey Team will now go down as the worst team in the history of the Maryland All-Stars fantasy hockey league. 16-consecutive losses is hard to do. Congrats?
Here are the full standings after 20 weeks of play:
Week 21 Preview
In addition to Blitzkrieg vs. Chelsea’s Dagger and Team Weinstein vs. Lexie’s Legit, Lou’s Still Clueless goes to war with Team Wong. It is very simple folks. Winner stays alive and loser goes home…
