Quarterfinals Recap
No upsets here! Seeds 1-4 have all advanced while 5-8 are sent packing. That includes our defending champion, Lexie, who’s days are numbered with the Maryland All-Stars Cup. Never in history has a a team won back-to-back titles and that trend continues for at least another year!
Philly’s Elite trailed Mr. Dub by a mere 5 points going into Sunday and was in prime position for one of the biggest upsets in the history of the Maryland All-Stars Cup Playoffs. #1 seed Mr. Dub had other plans, however. In veteran fashion, he picked up both David Rittich and Ryan Donato early Sunday morning who ended up combing for 19 points and played a huge role in propelling the 3-time champion into the semifinals. It was a hard-fought battle between two veterans of the league and Jordan deserves his flowers for a great season! That elusive first Cup will have to wait for the Philly fanatic.
Despite a late push from Lou’s Still Clueless, Team Weinstein was able to glide the semifinals in typical style. The 5-time Gordon Bombay Trophy winner put up the week’s most points (369) and continues to live up to his name. Eric was on an impressive run at the end of the regular season, but Mark proved too much to handle. Better luck next time, Lou!
The Swiss Machine narrowly defeated last year’s runner-up, Unleash the Fury, to advance to the semifinals. It was a great year from both clubs and this one easily could’ve went the other way. Katelyn has been on a great run of form the last few seasons and has fallen just short each time. I think we all know that her time will come. She’s too good at this! As for the Snow Cones, one of the league’s most consistent teams is rewarded for that dedication once again.
Down goes the champ! Ian makes it 9 wins in a row as he routs Lexie’s Legit. As Ian wins his very first playoff matchup, Lexie loses her very first and is brought down to Earth. That said, we should all celebrate Lexie’s incredible run of form during her first two seasons in the league. Stick taps.
Semifinals Preview
The most dominant team in league history goes up against one of the hottest teams in league history! This semifinals battle should be one for the ages. Mr. Dub won the first matchup between these two this year, but Ian won the rematch. It is only fitting that this season series will be decided in the semifinals. Mr. Dub is gunning for his 4th Maryland All-Stars Cup and Ian is trying for his very 1st. Will the evil empire prevail or will the team of destiny continue to shock the world?!
#2 and #3 go to war in a series that should be close until the very end. Snow Cones will need to find a little extra umph in the points department if he wants to realistically compete with Team Weinstein. Mark has been putting up generational numbers and is showing no signs of slowing down. Will Team Weinstein win Cup number 3 or will the Swiss Machine take home cup number 2?
