Week 19: Parity Party!
Mr. Dub becomes the first team to clinch a playoff position.
Week 19 Recap
Mr. Dub put up 409 points to defeat Lou’s Still Clueless and capture his 15th victory of the season! With that win, Mr. Dub becomes the first team of the 2024/25 season to clinch a playoff birth. Mr. Dub has only missed the playoffs once in the league’s 15-year history and is looking primed to challenge for championship number 4. Congrats!
On the opposite end of the spectrum, Eric has now lost 3 in a row and is sitting in 10th place, 1 win back of 8th place Philly’s Elite and 9th place Team Wong. All hope is not lost, however, because Lou’s Still Clueless currently has more points than both Jordan and Kendall. All Eric needs to do is finish the season tied on wins with both of them and it should be enough to make it to the dance. Next week’s showdown against Team Wong is setting up to be absolute fireworks!
Jordan and Kendall are both riding 2-week win streaks and remain in the heat of battle for that final playoff spot. The two of them sit 9th and 10th in the league in points, so they need to keep winning in order to keep pace with the rest of the pack.
Parity!
3rd-10th is only separated by 2 wins! There is potential for just about anything with 3 weeks to play….
Team Weinstein and my Blitzkrieg both took care of business against Unleash the Fury and the Washington Hockey Team, respectively. Mark and I have 12 wins to our names and continue to maintain a marginal lead over the 5th-9th positions who all have 11 wins. Of note, Team Weinstein is currently leading the league in points with 5,418 and is getting closer to clinching the Gordon Bombay Trophy for the 3rd consecutive year (and 5th all-time).
Lexie also won big last week, defeating 2nd place Snow Cones to move up into 5th! Our defending champion is heating up at the right time and currently has the 5th most points in the league. While nothing is guaranteed just yet, Lexie sure is looking dangerous come playoff time.
The biggest story of the season just keeps getting better! Ian’s Chelsea’s Dagger has now won 5 in a row! The man who has never made the playoffs is currently in 6th place and is the hottest team in the league. For the first time in Chelsea’s Dagger franchise history, they have better odds to make the playoffs than not. Wow. Keep it up, Kwant!
We also have some history to report. Henry has now tied Zach’s losing streak record set earlier this season with 15 straight losses. The Washington Hockey Team faces Philly’s Elite this week and can make history with one more L. Yikes.
Unfortunately, Paige is now officially eliminated from playoff contention after last week’s loss to Team Wong. She joins Joe, Zach, and Henry as the 4 eliminated teams this season. Better luck next time, pal!
