Team Weinstein Wins 3rd Maryland-All Stars Cup In Dramatic Fashion!
Mark's decade of dominance cements his legacy as one of the all-time greats.
Championship Recap
He’s done it! Team Weinstein is your 2024/25 Maryland All-Stars Cup Champion!
Congratulations, Mark. Your decade of dominance establishes you as one of the league’s all-time greats.
It was a powerhouse of a championship between father and son, Montgomery Trophy winner vs. Gordon Bombay Trophy winner. Team Weinstein was in control all week long and headed into Thursday night with a healthy lead.
Then everything changed.
Massive nights from Rust, Peterka, Michkov, and Stutzle powered Mr. Dub back into contention. By 9:05 PM EST, he was within 10 points of Mark. By 9:43 PM EST, he was within 0.6 points. By 9:52 PM EST, he took the lead by 3.4 points and was all of a sudden closing in on a dramatic comeback victory.
As I sat here getting ready to hit delete on my keyboard to rewrite this very newsletter, Team Weinstein’s MacKenzie Weegar blocked a shot. 1 point. Then he registered a shot on goal. 0.9 points. Then another shot on goal. 0.9 points. Then a second blocked shot. 1 point. Just like that, Mark was back in the lead by a mere 0.4 points.
Mr. Dub’s comeback came up just short by a final score of 419.7-418.5 in favor of Team Weinstein. By the narrowest of margins, the son slays the father.
With his win, Mark ties Mr. Dub for a record 3 Maryland All-Stars Cups and captures his third title in 7 seasons. That is the same amount of time it took his pops to accomplish the same feat. Carmel Ct. breeds fantasy hockey GOATs!
The Top 3
Mr. Dub ends his campaign in the top-3 for a 12th time and finishes in 2nd place for the 7th time. Those are both league bests. Although he wasn’t able to win the big one, Mr. Dub is the definition of consistency!
Snow Cones won the battle for 3rd place against Chelsea’s Dagger, achieving top-3 status for the 7th time. The Swiss Machine is always in the mix this time of year and beat a very strong Chelsea’s Dagger club.
