The league continues to operate in the Head-to-Head format. Scoring categories and point values will remain the same.

After the positive feedback from last year’s rule changes, this season will follow the same format. We successfully toned down the power of goaltenders and each roster will continue to have 1 starting goaltender spot. You can still draft a backup, but it will take up one of your 4 bench positions. This prioritizes scoring and makes the pool of free agents more robust. As a result, the weekly starting requirement for goaltenders will remain at 2.

All other roster positions will be the same, with the popular IR+ category returning for the fifth season in a row.

Welcome to the 16th season of the Maryland All-Stars fantasy hockey league! I hope everyone had a great summer and is ready for the greatest sport in the world to return in just a few weeks.

As we get ready for the new year, everyone needs to complete a few housekeeping tasks if you have not already:

1. TEAM INFO - review and, if necessary, update your team info and contract information on your Yahoo account.

2. TEAM LOGOS - I have texted everyone new files of your team logos that you should upload at your earliest convenience.

New Franchises

I am pleased to announce we have two brand new managers that will bring an abundance of hockey knowledge and competitiveness to the league!

Former RIT superstar and expert out on the slopes, Madison Farrand, has joined the league and will look to dominate right off the rip.

Professional hockey player and Hyrox athlete, Julia Blitz, has finally taken the leap into fantasy sports as she looks to conquer yet another esteemed hockey league.

It is a great thrill to have these two incredible human beings join our ranks. Welcome! Zach and Joe are leaving the league.

The 15th anniversary season of the Maryland All-Stars fantasy hockey league was one for the ages!

Thank you to each and every one of you for making this the most exciting, competitive, gratifying, and fun fantasy hockey league in the world.

From our history making championship match that saw Mark’s Team Weinstein win by the smallest playoff margin ever to Ian’s Chelsea’s Dagger finally getting over the hump to Henry’s Washington Hockey Team breaking the losing streak record, this was a year full of memorable moments and history.

Part of what makes our league so special is its longevity. We have naturally forged unique storylines, rivalries, and records that make each passing year that much more thrilling.

I hope you had as much fun as I did! See you next season.

The 2025 Maryland All-Stars Cup Playoffs begin March 25th (week 23) and continue though April 17th (week 25).

Playoff seeding is determined by the position in the standings. 1st place faces 8th place, 2nd place faces 7th place, 3rd place faces 6th place, and 4th place faces 5th place.

Tiebreakers are used to determine seeding if a team finishes level on points and record. The calculation is determined by winning percentage based on your W-L-T record in the regular season.

This calculation is used to determine standings and is used for tiebreakers.

• Calculation used: (Wins + [Ties * 0.5]) / Total Games Played = Winning Percentage

• Example: If the W-L-T record is 22-15-3, the calculation is (22 + [3 * 0.5]) / 40 = 0.588

The rule of a maximum of 20 adds per season includes the playoffs.

The 2024/25 trade deadline is February 26th.

After this date, you will be locked out from making any further trades. Adds/drops will continue until your team is eliminated from playoff contention.

Trading List

Due to the 4 Nations Face-Off, the NHL will be going on a two week break starting this Monday, February 10th that lasts until Friday, February 21st. Week 19 in fantasy hockey will start Saturday, February 22nd and end on Sunday, March 3rd.

Rosters will not be frozen. Adds/drops and trades are allowed over the break. The 2024/25 trade deadline is on February 26th.

4 Nations Face-Off Info

Team Weinstein and Lou’s Still Clueless have agreed to trade St. Louis Blues C,RW Jordan Kyrou in exchange for Dallas Stars LW Jason Robertson.

The blockbuster deal marks the first deal of trade deadline season!

It is with great pride that I announce the formation of the Maryland All-Stars Hall of Fame that is dedicated to celebrating the history of the Maryland All-Stars fantasy hockey league.

From legends of the game to retired team logos, the Hall of Fame serves as a reminder to never forget the tradition and standard of excellence set by our very best.

As commissioner, I have personally selected our inaugural members. Moving forward, the league will adopt an election procedure outlined later on in this announcement.

Inaugural Inductees

Georgina made history in more ways than one as the manager of the Goalie Gals. Not only was she the first ever female manager in league history, she also won her first Maryland All-Stars Cup in the very first season of the team’s existence. From that moment on, she was widely regarded as a perennial Cup favorite, boasting one of the best winning percentages in the history of the league (0.667) and finishing in the top-3 on five separate occasions.

Statement from Georgina on her induction:

“I’d like to thank the committee for this incredible honor. I’d also like to thank Jack for all his hard work and for flawlessly running such an incredible league. I’d like to thank my co-partner, Emily, who did absolutely nothing which was great because that way I just ran the boards myself. Lastly, I’d like to thank Jay. My goal every year was to beat Jay and he doesn’t know this, but I always tracked his players when it was draft time each year. Thanks Jay for the competition!”

For her trailblazing success, Georgina and the Goalie Gals have earned their rightful place amongst the league’s immortals.

2014-2018 was time unlike any other in Maryland All-Stars fantasy hockey league history because it was earmarked by unprecedented regular season and postseason domination by one team… The Team. In that timespan, Jamie collected two Maryland All-Stars Cups, three Montgomery Trophies as regular season leader, and three Gordon Bombay Trophies as regular season points leader. The Team set the record for most consecutive wins with twelve and only lost a total of 21 times in four seasons. That is unheard of in fantasy hockey, especially in a league known for its parity! Jamie’s sustained spell of superiority during that time is what has earned him a place amongst the league’s illustrious greats.

The biggest change this season involves the goalies. Last year, we calculated that goaltenders were a bit overpowered. To combat this, each roster will now only have 1 starting goalie spot instead of two. You still can draft a backup to sit on your bench. This will prioritize scoring a bit more and make the pool of free agents more robust. As a result, the weekly starting requirement will decrease from 3 to 2.

All other roster positions will be the same, with the popular IR+ category returning for the fourth season in a row.

The day has finally come! We are drafting tonight, September 24th, at 8:00 PM EST, 7:00 PM CST (Chicago and New Orleans), 5:00 PM PST (California).

As a reminder, this is a LIVE salary cap draft. Team order will be randomized at 7:30 PM EST. I suggest everyone arrive at least 10 minutes early to make sure you avoid any connection problems.

As a manager of one of our Original 8 teams way back in 2010, the league will be even more competitive with Zach’s experience factored into the mix. His team name is The Bad Brew.
